Elon Musk agreed to pay $44 billion to purchase Twitter if a lawsuit brought by the company in an attempt to force him to follow through with the deal is closed, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Trading of Twitter shares was halted after news broke that Musk had agreed to the original offer to purchase Twitter for $54.20 per share. Yesterday morning, share prices were around $43 but shot up quickly to $52 per share by 4 p.m.
A Twitter spokesperson indicated that the company plans to accept Musk’s offer.
